Equipment Operator

Summary/Objective

The equipment operator operates a variety of contractor equipment and trucks used in construction, maintenance and repair activities and performs a variety of semiskilled tasks.

The position may also operate a variety of hand and power tools and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist other craft workers.

Operates agricultural and heavy equipment, such as bulldozers, scrapers, backhoes, man-lifts, dump trucks, road grader, front-end loaders, hydraulic excavators, skid steers, agricultural tractors and vibratory compactors.

Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.

Operates jackhammers, hand operated compactors, mowers, brush chippers and other small equipment and tools.

Works with and assists in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting materials, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, hydraulic excavator, front-end loader or crane.

Performs daily safety inspections, maintenance inspections, cleaning and service checks on assigned equipment. Grease all moving parts and maintain proper fluid levels in accordance with operator’s manual before operating equipment. Make general repairs to equipment as required.

Maintains a clean job site: picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.

Performs materials handling and storage.

Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the Site Foreman.

Assists in the installing and maintenance of traffic control devices.

Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor.

This position has no supervision responsibilities.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell.

The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Our work demands may require that we change the starting and ending times of work schedules. We may need to change the number of work hours that are scheduled each day and week. We may also reassign you; temporarily or permanently to other locations depending on the overall needs of the Company. Your flexibility to comply with the staffing needs as needed are a condition of your employment with the COMPANY.
Local travel to various worksites is required.
1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
2. Two years’ experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment, two of which must have been related to utility or street systems.
1. Ability to read and interpret civil plans, drawings, diagrams and terminology
2. Experience as a Grade Stalker with the ability to set up instruments, go to a benchmark, shoot the bench mark and then refer back to the plans and specification to insure the work in the field matches the drawings specifications.
1. Valid CDL License.
